Wildfires: What Is the New Norm?

Wildfires burned approximately 9.8 million acres in 2017, making it the third most destructive wildfire season in U.S. history. This forces the industry to consider whether this level of wildfire activity is the new norm. Dr. Jeffery will provide proprietary data and expert analysis about 2017 wildfire events and what is expected for the future. He will explore how residential development and weather play roles in wildfire occurrence, size and intensity, as well as the geographic distribution of wildfire risk, including hot spots and potential losses. Who are the Super Regionals?

Below is a sample of the 156 companies who are either super regional carriers themselves or who have company members on the current list.

The original criteria and objective definition for Super Regional P/C Insurers was established in the Feb. 12, 2007, issue of Insurance Journal. Prior to the establishment of an industry-wide definition, a number of property/casualty insurers had referred to themselves as Super Regionals. Each year, Demotech, the official research partner of Insurance Journal, analyzes year-end data for property/casualty insurance companies submitted to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to create the list. The results are then published in Insurance Journal. For the purpose of this conference, carriers of all sizes are encouraged to participate.
